BBLAST: Biscayne Bay Plastic Transport and Fate Model
BBOM: Biscayne Bay Operational Hydrodynamic – Salinity Model
The Biscayne Bay Plastic Tracking and Fate Model (BBLAST) was developed by the Florida International University Institute of Environment, funded by a U.S. EPA grant, to enhance the Biscayne Bay Operational Model (BBOM) with a specialized module for simulating the transport and fate of plastics. The project’s primary objectives were to predict the movement and dispersion of plastics within Biscayne Bay and to provide actionable insights for local communities and decision-makers regarding the impacts of plastic pollution.
BBLAST & BBOM are the outcome of a joint effort of Florida International University and Hydronia, funded by the US Environmental Protection Agency
Principal Investigators: Henry Briceño, Piero Gardinali (FIU) and Reinaldo Garcia (Hydronia)
